Mars

MARS is a frank and funny scripted short of self-discovery set in the north of England that follows a day in the life of Charlie Acaster (Finney). All Charlie has ever wanted is a regular teenage existence – at least, that’s what she thinks. Now one extraordinary night will make her reassess what truly matters.

Directed by Abel Rubinstein

Starring Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney as lead character Charlie Acaster, the movie is based on YUNGBLUD’s song of the same name. YUNGBLUD said: “This story is an uncensored, unfiltered portrayal of youth. It revels in the fragile beauty of it, flirts with the pain of it and, most importantly, the undeniable, glimmering hope of it. It presents a generational shift towards acceptance of one’s self and others, and ever-growing confidence in our own insecurities.”

The film had a successful film festival run, including Tribeca Film Festival, Bifa longlist, BFI London Film Festival, British Shorts Berlin, Norwich Short Film Festival, and London Short Film Festival. It was also celebrated in many LGBT festivals, including BFI Flare, Fringe!, Mezipatra and more. Considering the talent involved in making the film, a ticketed live-streaming event was hosted by Yungblud, Mercury Studios and Universal Music where fans worldwide could celebrate the film, this happened alongside a private screening where fans were given free tickets through a lottery.
