Abel Rubinstein, represented by Casarotto Ramsay, is known for his character-driven storytelling and commitment to authenticity. His recent projects include Life In Love, an award-winning mini-series on ITV offering an intimate exploration of modern relationships, and Mars, a BIFA-longlisted short starring Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney, which paints a vibrant portrait of self-discovery and queer friendship.
Significant milestones include selections at LFF, Tribeca, Tampere, Flare, and over 70 other festivals worldwide. His work has been featured in Variety, Deadline, and Evening Standard, among others, with NME praising his immersive world-building. His earlier films, including Dungarees, Fuck the Boxes, and Wink, explored themes of gender identity, love, and self-acceptance, screening at major LGBTQ+ and international festivals with support from Creative England, BBC, ICA and Roundhouse.
Beyond narrative film, he has directed commercials and music videos, including a four-star David Reviews-rated music video for Cat Burns and a Nike campaign—two 60-second documentaries celebrating the queer community in sport, which reached over 11 million viewers.
Rubinstein is currently developing his debut feature film, Gumballs, with the BFI, marking his most personal and ambitious project to date. He was also awarded development funding by BFI Young Audiences for an original queer TV series.
Inspired by character-driven directors such as Sebastian Schipper (Victoria) and Lukas Moodysson (We Are The Best!), Rubinstein workshops closely with actors to achieve realist performances. His unique British storytelling explores themes of gender, sexuality, love, and friendship.
